EXCLUSIVE: A Theory About Shadow Jago

On June 10th, while browsing Gamestop’s website, I discovered something interesting on the Xbox One pre-order page. For pre-ordering an Xbox One Day One Xbox LIVE subscription, you get exclusive access to a Killer Instinct fighter known as Shadow Jago. It was recently discovered that this character isn’t limited to a GameStop only pre-order bonus, but the same additional character is also available when pre-ordering the Xbox LIVE subscription via the official Xbox website. But who exactly is this mysterious Shadow Jago and why don’t we know anything about him?

During my time at E3, I asked one of the developers about him and he was surprised that I knew about him. Despite my knowledge of him, the dev wasn’t allowed to provide any further information. My theory on Shadow Jago though is this: he’s an alternate or darker/evil form of Jago with a slightly different set of moves. Compare him to another character like Evil Ryu in Super Street Fighter IV. He’s essentially the same character but slightly different in appearance and moves. I believe that’s the approach Double Helix is taking with Shadow Jago.

Assuming my theory is correct, this could be extremely important to game itself. One of the biggest complaints about the Killer Instinct is its current lack of characters. The game is three months away from launch and we only know of four fighters thus far. That doesn’t bode well for people expecting a significant roster when the game releases in November. Shadow characters could serve as a temporary solution. If there is only, say six-to-eight original characters at launch, each of them having their own shadow version would easily double the roster. It’s not the be all, end all solution people are expecting (myself included), but it would be better than nothing at all perhaps.

What are your opinions on the mysterious Shadow Jago? Do you think my theory on his identity is correct? Would you be okay with a full roster of shadow characters (assuming there are more) to beef up the roster or would you prefer only a select few with focus solely on original fighters?
