For some reason there is nothing cooler than having a poster of your favorite video game. For Killer Instinct, not only were we able to get posters for this awesome game, but shirts, baseball caps, a Fulgore mask and even a letter opener. Below are some very interesting, odd and awesome merchandise created for Killer Instinct.
We will start off with the soundtracks.
The Killer Cuts soundtrack above on the left was released and packaged with the actual game Killer Instinct on the Super Nintendo in 1995. If you for some reason you lost that copy when you bought the game you were able to purchase it via the Nintendo Power magazine catalog. The Killer Instinct Gold Cuts soundtrack was released in 1996 around the same time as the game and was purchasable again through Nintendo Power. It had 16 tracks on it which included original tracks from the Arcade versions plus two remixes and the Training Mode track.
Next we have the Fulgore mask below. Again, this was available through the Nintendo Power catalog when the game released. This thing wraps all the way around your head with two small slits above Fulgore’s eyes for you to see through and one small vertical slit near the middle of his face for you to breath out of with your nose. Not the most comfortable fit for anyone that isn’t a child.
Below from left to right we have a Killer Instinct letter opener and a Killer Instinct paperclip holder. Both were given to the employees at Rare and Nintendo who worked on Killer Instinct. You can sometimes find them now on eBay if you are lucky!
And then a Killer Instinct 2 baseball cap. These were available to purchase in Nintendo Power as well but many were given out to Rare and Nintendo employees who worked on the game. To the right of that are some trading cards, opened and unopened packs used to promote the game.
Then we have this bad boy below. The over 6 feet tall Fulgore standee. This standee was given out to thousands of stores to promote the release of Killer Instinct. If you have one, you were lucky enough to ask the store owner for it before they threw it away or nabbed one on an auction site. There are two versions of this standee though. The more unique one needs batteries to light up Fulgore’s eyes!
This item below is a unique one as it was only released in Australia. This version of Killer Instinct for the Super Nintendo sporting the unusually big box comes with the game, Killer Cuts and a special Nintendo watch. It would have been even cooler if the watch was Killer Instinct branded but still a neat release.
Thus, he purchase cialis devensec.com or she experiences weight loss. There are also cialis samples very rare cases of more complex side effect. If you miss a dose of kamagra, you should not break, chew, or crust the discount levitra tablet; rather take it as a whole pill. This medicine enables a person to get over erectile dysfunction in online cialis generic a lesser time period then go for a drug that claims to have little promotional activities. The next items consist of a promotional pin given out at E3 during the reveal of Killer Instinct. Many employees were also given this pin. Then we have a light up button that was handed out to employees that worked at stores carrying Killer Instinct to wear to promote the game during release. The eyes would flash on and off a bright red. Another item given out to stores was the vinyl banner. If the retailer didn’t have space for that huge Fulgore standee, this would hang nicely on the wall.
A more recent addition to the merchandise of Killer Instinct is this development team shirt handed out at E3 2013 for the reveal of Killer Instinct on the Xbox One. If you were able to get to E3 and lucky enough to win a game at the Mad Catz booth, you were rewarded with one of these. To the right of that we have the Spinal Killer Instinct T-Shirt that was available to purchase through Nintendo Power.
This awesome Killer Instinct medallion necklace was a reward offered through the Super Power Club that was available to Nintendo Power subscribers. The medallion features the Killer Instinct logo on one side and on the other has the Nintendo “Ultra 64” carved in it which was the original name of the Nintendo 64 while it was in development. As many know Killer Instinct 2 was going to be coming out on the Super Nintendo but was moved to the Nintendo 64 as Killer Instinct Gold.
There were three versions of the before mentioned medallion. One with the Ultra 64, one with Fulgore and one with Spinal. Below is a picture of the Spinal medallion.
And now for the media kit. Not only was it packaged in a first-aid kit design but inside it carries a promotional VHS tape, tons of marketing documents and lots of epic artwork. It seems that they were mainly handed out to employees of Nintendo as the only ones to have surfaced on eBay belonged to former employees. The amount of design that went into this marketing kit is astounding!
We will end it with one of the coolest merchandise items for Killer Instinct, the Killer Instinct leather jacket! These leather jackets were given out to the Rare employees who worked on the game. They were also available to the winners of the national Killer Instinct tournaments around the United States. They are very hard to find and can be really expensive now a days. You might get lucky and see one on eBay so keep your eyes peeled.
Of course there are many many more promotional merchandise created for Killer Instinct. Hopefully more merchandise is created for all of us to collect. With the cards handed out at Evo and the three new shirts designed things are looking good.
I won’t the leather jacket in the 90’s got 1st place in a tournament.
What about the leather band, chrome watch sold through the N-Gear catalog? I bought one back in the day and have yet to see any pictures of it on the web..
I was recently given a KI Gold medallion with Fulgore on it. It is different from those medallions shown above in that the logo is for Killer Instinct Gold not Killer Instinct. I have no idea if this is the Fulgore medallion mentioned above, or something else Or how uncommon/rare it is regardless. I was told by the person who gave it to me that it had been given to his uncle who worked at a Seattle company that did some type of testing/development (Not Rare obviously) for KI Gold and was one of only a few. But he had reason to exaggerate rarity, and I doubt this is the case. I have not been able to find any pictures matching it, but then again, the pictures above are some of the only ones of Killer Instinct medallions KI can find. Any suggestions ads to where I could find out more about this medallion’s background?
I have a promotional Killer Instinct banner for Super NES. I cannot find another one online, or even a photo. My friends always try to buy it off of me.
I had the Fulgore standee with with the flashing eyes. I worked for Best Buy from 1995-96 and they let me take home all kinds of awesome promotional art!
