From the beginning of the new Killer Instinct’s announcement at E3, Double Helix and Microsoft have spoken about their long term plans for the game’s development. How it would continue to evolve with new features, new modes of play and new characters being added via “seasons”; seasons which would come yearly throughout the entire duration of the Xbox One’s lifecycle. But it has always been just that… long term plans, with no guarantees that any of it will ever happen.
You have to bear in mind that just like any other game developed or in development, it costs money to make. And just like any business venture, that money to a certain degree needs to be made back with a preference toward profitability. Microsoft know how much money they expect to earn from the game and if the game were to fail to meet their expectations, then the likelihood of them to greenlight and finance an underselling product is minimal.
Microsoft and Double Helix did confirm a few weeks ago that they are pleased with the way the game is currently selling, but they fell short from saying that we’ll be receiving a season two next year. They explicitly said that if we want a season two for certain, then it must continue to sell.
Killer Instinct has been very well received from the general populace, having scored decent reviews, great feedback from the majority who have played it, and it’s being accepted within the FGC by some of the world’s top fighting game players such as CD JR and Justin Wong.
So while the possibility of a season two and future seasons afterward isn’t a guaranteed thing, the chances of Microsoft allowing its development to continue are indeed plausible. Keep supporting the game and continue to spread the word about it and this time next year we’ll have an even bigger and better Killer Instinct to converse about.

Of course it’s gon be season 2 ..why do u think they called the first one season on….Plus they don’t have to make any thing but New characters and probably gob charge 20 to 30 dollars…so it’s a very good chance it Will be a season two of dlc

For God’s Sake just charge double what you would have charged to make the season two happen. All the hardcore fighting gamers would gladly pay it. I know it’s not a huge market but dam find a solution by making money on tiny add ons….

I of course would be insanely sad if it ends up not having a season 2, but I would still play the living shit out of season 1… this game is amazing even with the lack of single player content and characters at launch… at least the characters are completly different to play with and against… Try saying that about Ryu, Ken, Sakura, Akuma, Gen, Oni, Dan….. don’t know if I missed any… yeah I know they’re differently balanced, but seriously, they’re all the freaking same, same moves, same animations same clothes even.
I REALLY DO want KI season 2 to happen OF COURSE, but I also get that this is a business, no matter how much the guys at Double Helix loves this game themselfes… At least if we’re lucky they’ll find money for it elsewhere if M$ don’t wanna throw money after them.

Microsoft has a market cap of over 200 billion dollars. Money is not anywhere close to an issue and is beyond ridiculous to suggest such a thing. Double-Helix isn’t paying for any of this. Make Killer Instinct: Season Two.
Seriously, this is BS. You release an incomplete game and then use it’s sales as a determining factor on whether or not a sequel is made? GTFOH….
All this leads me to believe is that Microsoft really didn’t want to make this game in the first place (they made us wait 11 years after buying Rare from Nintendo) and only did it because they had absolutely NOTHING of marquee value to sell the XBOX One with games like Halo 5 and Titanfall well down the pipeline.

Yes I agree with u also all bs and they need to make 2nd season already and need to add the originals Cinder and riptor and then more female characters like Kim wu and original outfits and original stage music that u can choose to use online if u wish not just in practice mode

I Think everyone here should be grateful! KI3 is amazing with or without season 2 its STILL AMAZING. Orchid, Jago, Sabur wolf, Glacius, Thunder, Sadira, Folgore and Spinal IS incredible in its own right. Not to mention the K1 Port. I understand as much as anyone that WE WANT MORE! But be realistic and stop hating!
11 years is a long time to wait to make this game but at the end of the day you have to realize than this is a HARDCORE game. MS brought rare for family games like banjo, donkey kong, viva, kameo, kinect sports etc. IT was to give its console an nintendo edge thats why other projects have come first.
MS has never needed to impress the hardcore so thats why KI was’nt made that and the fact that KI gold sold 200K copies as apposed to KI1 that sold 4 million on the snes. The fact that SF4 has brought 2D fighters and fighters in general back to a commercial level is why KI is out now, its a trend.
MS has to make money too! Just because it has billion doesn’t mean it should make things for no return. No one on this forum goes to work and doesn’t get paid? Equally there is nothing stopping double helix publishing season 2 independently?
Personally id like to see this GAMES MODEL work. I think seasoned games are the way forward in terms of digital projects profits going straight to the manufacture. I feel personally that MS owes it to themselves to make this model work for other companies big and small to follow suit maybe then we wouldn’t need a SF4 SSF4 SSF4A USF4 DVD production. IT also keeps people interested and invested.
As for MS deciding to make a season two? Well i think they got bigger things to think of at the moment. Titles like Halo, fable, Gears of war are the reasons why we even got to see and play another KI so lets not blame them franchises for making the company and console strong.
No you need to stop Microsoft stated before the game even came out that they would keep the characters and have lots of seasons for killer instinct and how would u know fulgore and spinal are great not even out yet and they haven’t even released story mode yet or cinder or riptor or any other female characters so don’t tell us we should be happy Microsoft stated all this and now there saying maybe no that’s not right and neatherealm did the same thing with injustice and look what happened the roster still isn’t complete and it’s messed up everything KI needs to do what they said they are going to do not say things and no follow through cause that’s how u make ur games fail and systems

No one said there would be more seasons they said they would like to make more seasons and that they liked the business model to work to show how easy and organic an up can grow.
You Brough the game on that grounds. No “promise” of season two. It says on the tin what was intended and what you will get in a time period. 8 characters in time and story mode in time that’s clear very clear.
They didn’t offer the ultra addition with small print to season two did they? You knew what you was getting at the time of purchase you wasnt coned or tricked intro buying ki3.
I brought shemue 1 and 2 did I expect a 3? Did me buying one or two mean 3 was a certain? Not at all! Do I blame Sega for making a great game or ppl for not Having the same taste to buy and play it? It has to make money this isn’t a charity.
If everyone buys ki there will be as many ki’s as there is halos TRUST ME if they don’t there won’t That’s not MS fault.
I’m happy with what I got. Thank you ms for one of the best fighters I’ve ever played. I hope and pray you make much much much more but that’s a hope and nothing more.

I have been following KI since the announcement a E3 and don’t remember hearing/reading such a thing… think the closest I remember was Ken Lobb saying that if it was up to him there would definitely be a season 2

Sure here is what they said word for word Killer Instinct will also have a “season two,” Lobb tells IGN.DLC, he explained, “the idea is, we’ll have season two. Go out a year-ish, and just repeat the whole thing. It’s one game. So you can cherry pick from season two and play with season one, so it’s one ecosystem. It’s not sharded.”

This has to be one of the most ridiculous diatribes I’ve read in a long time. I am 36 years old and I have waited for Killer Instinct for literally half of that time. It is great to have it back. However, as I stated it is an incomplete game, or did you miss that part?
You also missed he part that MIcrosoft has a market cap of 200+ BILLION dollars. Not million. BILLION. And since Microsoft has done nothing on this project but sign the checks over to Double-Helix, they could have 10 Halo games on tap for development and it would have no bearing on KI because Double-Helix has does 100% of the work. To be fair i think companies like MS need to realize that sometimes you have to MAKE IPS work rather than just having run away success with them.
Add worth to the game, Add more content, improve it, make this business model work for “only” digital titles and MS could see allot more online exclusives, cutting out the middle man and huge production costs and risk or AAA titles all together.
As for me i want Kim Wu STANDARD! We need more girls. i wanna see kim wi go down the heavenly sword route in terms of red hair and design.

I really hope that they do season 2 and don’t be like nether realms and injustice where they said they were going to add more dlc and never did and that roster looks totally off with 2 open spots for characters and KI needs to push and push the more characters and the more downloadable content the more people will purchase and the bigger the roster the more people will play but also what they need to do is online play add rooms to join to play and add so you can use the old theme music while u are online not just in practice mode

Most of the people who bought KI are probably fans of the originals. Anyone I talk to who hasn’t played it yet were also not interested in the older games. I think that this game, although amazing, lacks the value get new people to buy it. Games with huge rosters like Super Street Fighter 4 and Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom are cheaper than KI and have way bigger rosters, and even though I think KI is better, you will have a very hard time convincing new players to make this buy without the guarantee of more characters. Also, I would like Riptor and TJ Combo.
Uhm… Why are you saying the 60$ games are cheaper? 20$ for 8 characters is pretty average for a fighter…
